- From "arpeg" (abbreviation of "arpeggio".)
- From "mpeg" (a digital audio/video compression format) or "jpeg" (a image file format).
- From "rpg" (role playing game)
- Could be a pun on the Left Bank of Paris, a district noted for it's artistic and intellectual life.
- Could be a reference to the phrase "This page intentionally left blank", a phrase sometimes used by publishers of technical manuals to indicate that a page is not accidentally blank (i.e. from a printing error). This was more common in the '70s and '80s.
